Morton Mustangs Debut Varsity Wrestling Poster

Berwyn/Cicero, IL – Morton High School’s Wrestling squad began the 2015-2016 campaign with the program’s first promotional poster. The varsity wrestlers are showcased on the posters wearing black fedoras and dark sunglasses with the vow “We’re on a mission,” reminiscent of Chicago’s famous Blues Brothers.

This year’s varsity seniors are Johnny Arzuaga, Xavier Corona, Donny Dinardo, Michael Dominguez, John Lane, Oscar Meraz, Jose Muratalla, Raymond Rivera, Joey Samolis and Jorje Vazquez. The new Varsity Head Coach Barry Castrogiovanni takes over after the retirement of longtime coach Steve Eckert.

Graphic arts students and photographers from Morton West worked together with photographers from Morton East on the poster, under the direction of teachers Michael Battistoni (West) and Alonso Balderas (East).

Morton West seniors Matthew Vega and Anthony Valdovinos collaborated on production. The students in Battistoni’s classes designed and printed the posters to coincide with the start of the wrestling season. It includes the dates and times of the Mustangs’ matches. “Matthew and Anthony really worked hard to pull this off in time,” Battistoni said. “Now, on to basketball.”

The graphic arts classes of Morton West have produced thousands of posters for the Morton football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball and band programs since the 2014-2015 school year. Students have won awards at community college competitions for their work.

The Athletic Department will release posters for girls and boys basketball and girls bowling this winter.

J. Sterling Morton High School District 201 educates more than 8,300 students from the communities of Berwyn, Cicero, Lyons, Stickney, Forest View and McCook.
