District 201 Adopts 5th Consecutive Balanced Budget

(Cicero, IL) – The Board of Education for J. Sterling Morton High School District 201 is proud to announce adoption of the District’s fifth consecutive budget for the 2014-2015 financial year at a special public hearing on Tuesday, September 16, 2014.

“We’re proud of the fact that we have invested in more capital projects, such as the renovation of Hoffman Stadium and upgrades to our wireless infrastructure to handle the student’s laptops, and still managed to keep a balanced budget,” said Board President Jeff Pesek.

“We worked to identify and eliminate unnecessary costs while increasing the learning opportunities available to our students. I am very pleased with the results my team has produced,” said Superintendent Dr. Michael Kuzniewski.

The administration has worked hard to seek additional state funding through grants, most recently the DCEO Grant, School Maintenance Grant, and Energy Efficient Grant, which have made school improvements possible.

Despite the significant decline in both state and federal aid, the school district has been working hard to ensure taxpayers’ dollars are being put to good use, while still maintaining a strong focus on delivering the highest possible quality of education for students as reflected by district accomplishments like the increase in participation in the Advanced Placement program.

Sterling Morton High School District 201 provides quality educational experiences that challenge and enable more than 8,000 students from the communities of Berwyn, Cicero, Forest View, Lyons, McCook, and Stickney as lifelong learners to be productive and responsible members of the global community. The district’s Board of Education is comprised of Board President Jeff Pesek, Vice President Kasumba “Kal” Lwanga, Secretary Jessica Jaramillo-Flores, and members Mark Kraft, Margaret Kelly, Michael Iniquez, and Vincent LaPaglia.
